Hummel leads Purdue to rout of Ohio State

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

02/28/2009 - West Lafayette, IN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Robbie Hummel had a game-high 17 points, and four other Purdue players scored in double-figures, as the 16th-ranked Boilermakers routed Ohio State, 75-50, in Big Ten conference action at Mackey Arena.

Nemanja Calasan contributed 14 points and JaJuan Johnson had 12 points and six boards for Purdue (22-7, 11-5 Big Ten), which recovered after suffering a 87-78 setback at Michigan on Thursday. The Boilermakers have won five of six overall.

E'Twaun Moore had a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with 11 points, and Keaton Grant had 10 points for Purdue, which shot 54.7 percent, including 9- for-19 percent from three-point territory.

Evan Turner led Ohio State (18-9, 8-8) with 14 points before fouling out. P.J. Hill and Jeremie Simmons each had seven points for the Buckeyes, who were unable to build off a 73-59 victory over Penn State on Tuesday. OSU has dropped four of their last five.

In the second half, the Buckeyes would draw to within two, 32-20, in the early stages, but Hummel's 1-of-2 effort from the line would key a 8-0 run that put the Boilermakers up by 10, 40-30, 3 1/2 minutes into the period.

Things would continue to go downhill for OSU, as Grant's three-ball would start Purdue on a 17-6 surge, and, after Hummel hit from beyond the arc, the hosts held a comfortable 57-38 advantage with 8:42 left in the contest.

Purdue poured it on in the remaining minutes and upped its lead to 20 at 63-43 after a Lewis Jackson basket with under six minutes to play. The Boilermakers would empty the bench and coast to an easy win.

Purdue had its way with things in the first half, holding an 18-11 lead following a basket by Chris Kramer 8 1/2 minutes in. The Boilermakers would then stretch its lead to 28-16 with six minutes remaining in the stanza.

Ohio State, however, would score the final six points of the half and trail by a 32-26 margin heading into the break.

Game Notes

Purdue hosts Northwestern on Wednesday, while Ohio State visits Iowa on Tuesday...Purdue leads the all-time series with OSU, 80-74, including 53-23 in West Lafayette. The Buckeyes captured an 80-72 overtime victory in the first meeting of the season on February 3rd...OSU finished 43.8 percent from the field, including a woeful 4-of-17 from three-point range.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
