02/28/2009 - Tallahassee, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Toney Douglas scored a game-high 23 points as 23rd-ranked Florida State held on to edge No. 12 Clemson, 73-66, in ACC action at Donald L. Tucker Center.
Derwin Kitchen and Chris Singleton each donated 10 points apiece for Florida State (22-7, 9-5 ACC), which recovered after dropping a 72-67 decision to Boston College on Tuesday. The Seminoles have won six of eight overall.
Ryan Reid and Deividas Dulkys chipped in with eight and seven points, respectively, for the Seminoles, who shot 46.4 percent from the field, including 7-of-17 from three-point range.
K.C. Rivers lead Clemson (22-6, 8-6) with 17 points and five rebounds, while Terrence Oglesby registered 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc. The Tigers have dropped two straight, including an 80-77 setback at home to Virginia Tech on Wednesday. Clemson has split their last four contests.
Raymond Sykes had 10 points and Trevor Booker had a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with eight points for the Tigers.
In the second half, the Seminoles continued to have their way with things and following a pair at the line from Singleton, held a 58-44 advantage near the midway point of the stanza.
The hosts held the double-digit lead for the next three minutes, but Clemson would come back with a vengeance.
Trailing by a 63-51 margin with just under six minutes to play, Rivers hit a jumper to spark a 9-0 Tigers run. After a Sykes fastbreak layup made it a 63-60 game with 3 1/2 minutes to go, FSU would regain control of things.
Douglas made a pair from the stripe that spurred a 7-0 surge and put the Seminoles ahead by double-figures at 70-60 with 41 ticks remaining.
Clemson would get a pair of desperation three-pointers in the final seconds, but it wouldn't be enough.
Dulkys' three-pointer started a string of three straight triples as Florida State used a 14-0 run to grab a 25-13 lead near the 7 1/2-minute mark of the first half.
Clemson wouldn't be able to put a dent into its deficit and the Seminoles took a 12-point edge, 39-27 into the break.

Pittsburgh earned their passage to the big game by beating their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens, 23-14 in yesterday's AFC Championship Game. The Steelers jumped on Baltimore early, building a 13-0 first half lead, and never let up on their way to a fairly easy win. Although the Ravens did close to within two points in the fourth quarter, it never appeared as if they had enough offense to pull off the upset.
The Steelers dominating defense held Baltimore to a total of 198 yards while allowing them to convert just three third downs in 13 attempts. Pittsburgh also forced quarterback Joe Flacco into three interceptions, one of which safety Troy Polamalu returned fourty yards for a touchdown.
The Cardinals, by far the playoff team with the longest odds to reach Super Bowl XLIII, did so yesterday with a 32-25 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.
Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.
MySportsbook.com's Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds:
Pittsburgh Steelers -6.5 (-110), Over 46.5 (-110), -260 (Money line)
Arizona Cardinals +6.5 (-110), Under 46.5 (-110), +220 (Money line)
